How To Cook A Hotdog In A Toaster Oven

Cooking a hotdog in a toaster oven is a simple and fun activity for everyone. If you have very little time and you want to cook a hotdog, then this is the way to go. The steps are simple enough to follow and it will not take you more than 5 minutes to cook the hotdog. You can even make two hotdogs in the same amount of time it would take you to make one hotdog in a regular oven. This way is much faster and it will not require you to use your full sized oven.

Steps

Step 1: Cut The Sausage

Cut the sausage along its length. Make sure that you cut the sausage about 3/4 of an inch thick. Obviously, the thickness will vary depending on the kind of sausage you are using. The bigger the sausage, the less thick it should be cut. If you can't cut it with a knife, then use a pair of scissors instead.

Step 2: Preheat The Oven

Preheat the toaster oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius). If you are cooking two hotdogs, then give yourself some time between them so that they could both get cooked at the same time. You need at least 10 minutes between each hotdog if your toaster oven has a single heating element rather than two separate ones. This way, when one hotdog is done, it could be removed while the second one could be placed in the oven and cooked from there.

Step 3:

After preheating the oven, place one side of the sausage in the middle of it and leave it there for about 2 minutes. Use wooden tongs to flip the sausage over and cook it from the other side for about 2 minutes as well. When making two hotdogs in one cycle, you should first place one of them on top of the other so that they could get cooked together instead of separately. Do not use a fork or a knife to flip them over.

Step 4: Cook The Sausage From Other Side

Finally, after flipping over both sides, place them back on top of each other again and cook them for another minute or two depending on how well done you want your hotdogs to turn out to be. It is important that you remove both sausages before turning off the toaster oven or else they will burn rather than getting browned which is what we want at this point when cooking a hotdog in a toaster oven or any other small sized ovens for that matter.

Step 5: Toast Your Buns

If you are going to eat your hotdogs with buns, then put them into the preheated toaster oven for about 3 minutes or until they get browned evenly. This kind of baking should not be done with larger buns because they will take longer to get browned than smaller buns do and they may end up getting burnt rather than being nicely browned like we want them to be like in this case where we are cooking a hotdog in a convection toaster oven.

Tips

  • To ensure that your sausage does not explode, make a few cuts before cooking it.
  • Turn the hotdog over halfway through cooking to ensure even cooking.
  • Use metal pans and utensils when cooking with toaster ovens, and be careful not to use plastic materials.
  • If you want to make a stuffed hotdog, slit it open before cooking and add cheese and bacon or other fillings during the last half of cooking.
  • As the hot dogs cook, juices will drip down, so make sure you have foil paper underneath.
